Newtown

i love newtown :)

I went on a weekday afternoon, so I probably didn’t get to see it at its best. I assumed that it would be similar to Melbourne’s Fitzroy, which it is, but at the time it seemed a little bit pale in comparison. Looking forward to going back at night some time.

I used to live about 3 bloks away, rockin roll kinda place loves it.

Get the picture? Good, cheap food, lots of new and second-hand bookshops, a cinema, many cafés, several pubs and bars, and a thriving ‘alternate’ queer culture (although not quite so alternate as it once was). There are still lots of second-hand furniture places at the South end of King Street, and funky hairdressers, gothic clothing shops (and more food) in Enmore Road; as well as two theatres, the New and the Enmore.
It’s also easy to get to, with several bus routes and two rail lines nearby.

Lived in Newtown for about ten years…and they were ten of the best years of my life! Going to Uni at Sydney Uni down the road, going to the Townie and any of the loads of other pubs around the place and generally creating havoc…

Ah Newtown, you’ll always feel like home

I lived here for a few months when travelling, it was the best place to get smashed and the people were hilarious!!

have I spent in Newtown. My crazy juggler friend used to live there and I caught up with him a lot when I was over in sydney for work (I flew to Sydney every week from NZ for 9 months last year). Newtown is such a fun place, it has a nice friendly vibe, the buildings have a particular character about them, and the suburb has the best selection of international restaurants I’ve experienced in Sydney.

Good times.

Newtown feels like home… chaos and everthing goes ;)
when i lived there it was one of the few no kfc, mcdonalds etc places. its got style in a “not in your face” kind of way and a mix of people, places shop’s nd all. thumbs up newtown!

Newtown has quite a few pubs – I haven’t been into all of them. My favourites are The Carlise Castle on Albermarle St, and The Town Hall which is right next to the station. Newtown also has good pizza at Wedgetail which is opposite the station next to the community centre.

There’s also a very good graveyard around St Stephens church, kind of behind the Dendy and the IGA. It’s very over grown, with huge trees and old roses gone wild amongst the graves. Some important early Sydney people are buried there. It’s an interesting place.
