I mean, it is what it is, but people (I’m mainly talking of tourists) think Hollywood in general is this amazing place where they’ll bump into celebs. If celeb sightings are your thing, they’re out during the week in places like West Hollywood and Santa Monica. You’ll occasionally bump into some in nicer parts of the valley (this is what I hear). But Hollywood in general isn’t what people are expecting (it’s kind of dirty and stinky). I used to stand on a bus stop on Hollywood & Highland and it would be funny to see tourists pass the Mc Donald’s and exclaim “there’s Marilyn’s star!” and then crouch down on the nasty side walk to get a picture of themselves next to the star…. ah, life in Los Angeles…

If you get your picture taken with one of the characters wandering the sidewalks (which I suggest, it was so fun!), don’t forget to tip! I had no idea I needed to tip them and I was really embarrassed, but they were really nice about it.

Not that I would want to do it twice… Was in LA (2007), took a city tour to become acclimated… one of the stops was the ‘Hollywood Walk of Fame’. Some might think it’s cheesy (the area is very touristy); but, it is an integral part of the ‘Hollywood Persona’. There are ALOT of sidewalk stars. The sidewalk runs along in front of the theatre where the Academy Awards are presented (the sidewalk stars are on both sides of the street) . There is a tremendous amount of glamour and tradition associated with that area in spite of the souvenir shops. (I do not know what happened with the recommend/not worth it selection… I would say it is worth a look – I could not figure out how to go back to correct)

I’ve been on the Hollywood Walk of Fame a lot of times, almost too many times to count, if only because everywhere I go in Hollywood is located somewhere around those little stars. Every time I travel there, I have a great time, but the best time I’ve ever had there took place on December 13th, 2007.
A friend and I made the trip from Arizona to the Knitting Factory to see Anti Feminism and Hagakure (Jrock bands). The show was set to start at 7PM, but we had gotten there much earlier (let’s say between noon and 1PM). So far, there was only one other person in “line,” but the security guards patrolling the area were making a big fuss about her being on the club’s property, and so, we decided to stand out on Hollywood Boulevard just a few yards away until the show started.
Over the course of six to seven hours, I made tons of friends that I’ll never forget. I took an insane amount of pictures, and the people passing our growing group of Jrockers snapped a few, too. I never would have thought that waiting in line all day in the freezing cold could be so eventful!
We made a sign for people coming to the concert, telling them that the “Anti Feminism line starts here,” and not up by the door, attracting a lot of attention from people who thought we were protesting feminism. That in itself was hilarious.
Everybody had a lot of fun. One of the best days of my life, right on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, just down the block from the Chinese Theater.
Only in Hollywood, man…

I love the Walk of Fame! Whenever I walk it, I always see the name of a long forgotten actor or actress. I write the names down and check out their careers on Wiki.
Some spots are a bit seedy, but it only adds to the flavor.
