Worth visiting!
This is apparently the bike-riding season here—
lots of children squealing
after falling off a bike
without training wheels.
To learn how to ride without training wheels,
without helmets,
with only the wisdom of our older friends
and safety of our parents’ arms—
unthinkable,
but how true.
This entire trip has been learning
how to ride, fly, swim and walk
with little familiar to lean on.
In that case, brothers and sisters,
you and I and we
are the same.
In a world that belongs to all of us,
where are our homes?
Is it where our heart lies—
Tibet, or Ohio?
Or is our home any place
where we can lay our heads,
knowing others are laying their heads
on the other side of the world?
I have never been in India,
but it feels like I have
spent an eternity here;
I can belong here just
as we all belong here
on this hot, salty night.
My words cannot express my gratitude
but sometimes all one can say is—
thukje-che.
