Xanadu is real! (And i ain't talkin' about the olivia Newton-John movie)  — 4 months ago

Worth visiting!

I traipsed all over this drafty old gilded barn and couldn’t find Rosebud anywhere! Dayum I wanted to jump into those pools though. And I wished I could have my own airstrip. And my own zoo. And my own mistress. And my own newspapers that I could make up any news that I wanted to. W.R. Hearst I salute you!

The last time I went to this place  — 6 months ago

Worth visiting!

I spent a day here in 1998.
The place is an amazing collection of stuff.
I remember the empty animal cages on the way up the hill.
The man was rich. He was able to buy lots of stuff.
There are all kinds of things he bought in Europe.
He had a room full of pots from Greece.

Worth visiting!

Was here years ago on a road trip with my parents. I remember thinking how cool it would be to have your own theatre & bowling alley! We got to sit in the theatre & watch old b&w films of the stars who visited the castle! I loved the pool surrounded by statues & columns outside & the pool inside inlaid with gold.

Worth visiting!

What a grand life it must have been. The neptune pool is really cool. Take the tour and see for yourself. There’s a nice motel to stay in San Simion Bay not far from the Hearst Castle .

Tour #2  — 1 year ago

Worth visiting!

I went a few days ago and went on tour #2, which covers most of the bedrooms (including Hearst’s own), the kitchen, and the swimming pools. I thought it was worth seeing, if only to put my life into perspective. Most people think they would want to live in a humongous castle, but it made me realize that I appreciate simplicity in my life. It was interesting to see some of the artifacts he had collected. It cost about $20 for the tour. I would probably be willing to go on another of the tours at some point in the future.

This place is absolutely beautiful – all I remember is the garden, the pool (inside and outside), and a sitting-type room – but I’m glad that my parents dragged my grade school behind here. It’s been more than a decade since I’ve been here last, but some memories stay with you forever.

Worth visiting!

I just went to visit. I have not seen this place since I was a kid myself. So I only remembered the pool as most people do.

Sad part is the outdoor pool is drained right now, totally a different site to see it without the water, its being worked on, so that was dissapointing, check in before you book if you want to see if the pool is filled.

I really enjoyed seeing the film on Hearst in the National Geographic Theatre, you get an insight to the man none of which I knew when I went as a child.

Check out the night time tours, where they have people dressed up in period clothing!

Always a great place for oodles of great picture taking.
