Honeymoon  — 1 month ago

Worth visiting!

My husband and I visited the park during our honeymoon. It was really great. We stayed at a gorgeous guest lodge, Blue Jay Lodge, just a few minutes away from one of the gates. We saw 4/5 of the big five. And many other favourites such as giraffes, zebras, warthogs.

Cheetah posing  — 5 months ago

Worth visiting!

I’ve been to Kruger four times and have seen a wide variety of game, birds etc. But I never yet got to see a leopard or a cheetah.

Then on the last trip, somewhat south of Skukuza, one was encountered on the dirt road. It was a bit of a dull day but I had to get a photograph, yet the animal just kept walking along the road – away from the car – offering only a “rear end” photo opportunity.

Then when I was about to despair, the cheetah turned into the bush on my side of the car. I thought that was the end of the sighting, when the cheetah climed up on a large bolder, and with the sunlight at that very moment breaking throught the clouds and focusing on the beast, it turned towards the car – as if posing for a photo.

I’m returing to Kruger April 2008 and hope this time to capture a leopard with my lens.

i lived 75km from the Kruger Gate for most of my life. although i loved going into the park, i didn’t nearly do it as much as i should have. it’s simply an amazing place, and i would love going back there soon.

its a great place to go, and anything can happen!
the first time i went there, a rhinoceros came running in the direction of the car i was in, we were all screaming, but he turned and went to the lake to drink water, i think he just wanted to scare us eheheh:)

saw really rare wild dogs here!  — 2 years ago

Worth visiting!

We saw a huge pack of wild dogs here… They are much more rare than hippos, or elephants, or even lions. We saw so many animals, including elephants, and watched lions for over an hour. Go on the tours looking for lions at night with one of the native guides. As a travel tip, make sure to be very careful while driving and not to stick your head too far out the window/sunroof because people take pictures “of the idiot hanging out the window” and sell them to the park. As a visitor from another nation, don’t be surprised at the attitudes of many of the South Africans. They are very rough and can be somewhat contentious. It’s very easy to judge the racist attitudes, and very difficult to understand the cultural struggle.

Worth visiting!

Totally worth the visit! A day trip is nice, but stay overnight if you can to soak up more of the experience, and see more game. The night jeep drives are well worth the money!
