I used to live there when I was small and still visit regularly. When my mom would pick me up from preschool and take me to lee’s donuts…15 years later, the owner still remembers me.

Chinatown was definately something to see but I guess I was missing something because the rest of the island wasn’t all that cool except for the marina. Beer is very expensive there, so stick to the bubble tea.

I bought so much tasty food in the market. Fresh cheese, bread, vegetables, berries… Went outside and had a little picnic by the inlet with some awesome music, courtesy of one of the many buskers all around the island!

If you’re on the wrong side of the Burrard Bridge to get there, walk the beautiful seaside paths over to the Maritime Museum and the False Creek Ferries. From Maritime you will be taken to the Aquatic Center (which is on the other side of the Bridge, you can go straight there if that’s the side you’re on), and then to Granville Island.
It’s a blast even for a local, the sea is the most beautiful mode of transportation in this city, I think most would agree. The second best way to get to Granville Island is to walk on. As others have said, do not try to park.
Also, try to get there when there’s going to be music in the square. It’s usually pretty spectacular.

Don’t try and find parking down there, especially during the summer on a weekend. Leave your car at a park and ride and take the train down instead.

I remember the market and eating mini pies while watching seagulls. Lots of creative crafters sell their creations here. I also love the toystore and I still like to go in through the child door.

We stayed at the Granville Island Hotel on our trip to Vancouver and I think it was the best place to stay. It was central to pretty much everything we wanted to see and the market is the absolute best! We spent more time on the island than we originally expected just because it was so pleasant and there were plenty of great restaurants to check out.

For all the beauty of Vancouver, Granville Island was a nice promenade-like place to spend some time. Great restaurant choices, beautiful view of the bay even if it’s raining. Cute gift shops, calm and clean, much like the rest of Vancouver. :)

I met my husband on Granville Island. Our mutual friend Wynn invite us both to a lounge for cocktails and that was it. We were inseperable after that and married 15 months later.
