Why I want to go to this place  — 3 months ago

Been looking into this and its going to cost almost $1000 for us to go down for three days including hotel, car, and gas.

The first time I went to this place  — 1 year ago

Worth visiting!

It is so different from anything I’d ever seen (since I grew up on the east coast) that it felt like I was on the moon. I’ve been back several times and it’s amazing every time.

My love affair with Joshua Tree  — 1 year ago

Worth visiting!

I have been to some 20 odd National Parks and Joshua Tree will always be my fav. 100 degrees the 1st week of May. Go bouldering, rock climbing, not see people for a couple days. Camp out under the desert moon and listen to the coyotes howl.
Best time ever

Worth visiting!

First, with the ex-wife in 1987 or so, then again on Sept 20th, 2006 with Yvonne and Stephanie. It was hotter than blazes both days, but the pristine blue of the sky, and the quiet, are all peaceful and serene.

Another Planet  — 1 year ago

Worth visiting!

Some places are like a world you’ve never been to before. I don’t drive and so have the advantage of more opportunity to see things when someone else is driving. It is a memory from a long time ago, but I do remember my feeling that it was like watching a movie in this unique desert panorama with forms of vegetation that seemed so marvelously alien that I could pretend that I was on another planet. Hot and dry, yes, but what a revelation when you have never seen that kind of desert before. Many people think that all desert is alike, but no, none of it is. I come from low desert; not sand, but arid and with shrubs and cactus. To me, California is an amazing place of variety in plants, levels and people.

Worth visiting!

We used to go here a lot for rock climbing in the 90’s when we were into that. Very fun, rock climbers mecca, basically. And when you camp out at night the stars are amazing, a billion more than you could ever see in L.A. (Obviously) I know everybody says this, but it can often feel like a lunar landscape, mostly during the twilight hours before dawn or sunset.
There’s a great mexican restaurant I don’t remember the name of, but if you just ask somebody in the town about the great mexican restaurant, they’ll know which one you mean.

I learned to rock-climb here and it was one of the best things I’ve ever done.
