I just flew back from Japan, and the day we visited Mt Fuji, it was pretty cloudy. But when we got up there, the weather was clear and we got a perfect view of Fuji. And the most surprising thing is, there was snow in Spring!

Climbing Mount Fuji is a great experience… tiring and long, but one of those things you’ll never regret. The view from the top is amazing, so you gotta do the night climb. The crater is absolutely massive and quite humbling. Definately do it if you have the ability.

Just keep some energies for coming down!
The sandy&rockie soil will run behind your boots.
Can be a bit tiring, but the sunrise is amazing! Please be at the top by that moment!

I did this in 2000, and I have to say that it was one of the coolest things I have ever done. We started at station 5!( which I guess is where most people start). It was more challenging than I expected. I re-enlisted in the Navy for 4 more years when I got to the top. The funnest part was “skiing” back down with my stick! I watched so many of my friends fall and break theirs hahaha!

To the summit  — 1 year ago

It was a great experience to climb Mt. Fuji, it was very beatiful and maybe a little bit chilly. Make sure to get yourself one of those hiking sticks to get the hot stamp on it. Also don’t quit, make it up to the summit! It is well worth the view and sense of accomplishment.

nearly died, i don’t quite understand why i thought it’d be so easy…also had my expectations too high, i didn’t see the sunrise and overall just a quest for survival, strangely enough all this was intermixed with hoards of climbers and shacks for stamping my hiking stick…

It’s bigger than I thought it would be. It’s such a well known symbol that it’s surreal when you actually stand at the base and see it up close!

Technically, I just flew over it. Beautiful! I plan to go back and climb it someday.

    Questions about this place

Petersky asks, “I'm going with my husband and my children to Mt. Fuji area. I don't harbor illusions that we are going to make it to the summit. Rather, we'd just like to do a day hike. Should we hike for a bit along the trail to the summit or do something else?”
