Why I want to go to this place  — 1 year ago

I want to go here mostly because I find India fascinating, but also because of the tea, which I love, and this limerick:

There once was a man from Darjeeling
Who got on a bus bound for Ealing.
The sign on the door
Said “Don’t spit on the floor,”
So he carefully spat on the ceiling.

Worth visiting!

If I visit only one hillstation in India, then it would be Darjeeling. This district is famous for expensive tea.

Best Indian hillstation. Too good to resist. You can visit Kathmandu from here which is in Nepal.

The first time I went to this place  — 2 years ago

It was long back that i visited darjeeling but it was one of the best trips for sure. we’d been to Kolkatta to attend a family function at my uncle’s place and so the next spot to explore from there was Darjeeling.. I went there with my family and relatives.. we were about 25 of us and we had a gala time.. cant forget the train journey and how much fun we had…:-)

family gatherings are so much fun!

Seeing this photo album on fair trade tea plantations in India makes me want to go even more. Chicago Conscious Choice also has a feature on fair trade tea from India this month.

Next stop, the Himalayas  — 2 years ago

Worth visiting!

I was only about six when I went to Darjeeling, but I vividly remember travelling up on the “Toy Train” – all smoke and thrilling precipices – to arrive in a place that seemed miraculously green and blessedly cool compared with the heat and dust of Calcutta.

I can also remember being impressed with the tea plantations – the same plant as far as the eye could see, and all being harvested by hand. But best of all was the trip to Tiger Hill, to watch the dawn break over the Himalayas and Mount Everest. I got an old-style hand-coloured and annotated photographic postcard: I still have it today.
