Why I want to go to this place  — 11 months ago

The ancient city of Thebes… I thrill just to think of it!! Such history is written there that it must be possible to just drink it in by standing there.

Worth visiting!

Egypte is more than terrific and wonderfull, I ca’t find a word who to describe the perfect moments I passed there! I wished I could have stayed! History is my domain, what better than to visit the city of Luxor! the Temple of Luxor, the Temple of Karnac, the Temple of Hatchepsout, the museum of Luxor, the valley of the kings, the valley of the queens, the museum of mumification and so on… Unfortunatly I only spent one week in a half, but I pretend to back in Egypte to descover other beauties of this country.

I love it here. I would go back and spend a month in Luxor given the chance.

Worth visiting!

i sort of hated how much the locals overcharged for everything simply because the place is entirely tourist oriented. other than that, bang up weekend trip. i highly recommend hiring a cab for the day and taking the 3-hour drive to abydoss and dendara.

Worth visiting!

We stayed at the Mina Palace hotel on the corner of the Corniche next to Luxor Temple. The front rooms have a view over the Nile cruisers to the west bank. At night you can see the floodlit Temple of Hatshepsut.

We hired bikes which we took on the foot ferry over to the west bank and cycled to the valleys of the Kings and Queens. It’s quite flat, until you get to the valleys. It was a wonderful way to travel and we were greeted by kids at every village and taken into homes for tea.

One of the real values of travel is the constant reassurance that despite the political or religious complexion of a country most people are friendly and hospitable and want to get on with their lives. We are nearly all curious and interested in others. The genuinely freely offered hospitality humbles me every time as I know that strangers in my homeland would not always be greeted with such generosity.

Yes it’s true that you get a lot and persistent requests to baksheesh or cadeaux but it’s a small amount to give, certainly a lot, lot less than we’d have paid to a travel company to be whisked around viewing everything through smoked glass windows and being deposited right outside the tat shops.

Luxor is fantastic. I have been 4 times now and seriously thought about moving there for a while. Unfortunately the right job didn’t come up at the right time. Will definitely be going again in the next few years.
