I’ve lived in and around the Portland Metro area for almost my life. I love it here. In my experience it is what you make it. So if you don’t plan to try much or do anything it won’t really seem like much to you, but if you make an effort to go out and try things you’ll have fun.
I suggest checking out the hardcore/metal music scene, if you’re into it. A couple venues that actively have shows are: The Satyricon, The Hawtorne Theatre, and Rock n’ Roll Pizza.

Portland, OR is alright, it is a lot like Washington State, just more crime and prisons!! =/

I want to see the Shanghai tunnels and Hobo’s restauraunt.. (Main reason) but I am excited about the Rose garden, Japenese Graden and the Chinese gardens.. I want to see the Victorian homes and I wished we had time to go to the ocean but my friend and I will only be there 3 days.

I’ve lived in Portland for the past year and will be leaving in three days. I highly recommend taking long walks even in the rain, and frequent visits to Saturday market (and the pad thai cart there).

I was supposed to go to Portland the first weekend in May with some friends from work. The day after I booked my ticket… I got laid off. Figures, right? My boss sucks. I get more and more grumpy as I write these entries about my canceled trips from this year. I was really looking forward to Portland, especially because of all the bookstores! (I’m an avid reader.) I was also looking forward to visiting a few brewhouses. Bah. Giving up on Portland for now… lamenting the loss of yet another cheap airline ticket.

I’m just moving back here after a 10 1/2 yr stay in TX, and I didn’t think I wanted to stay here, because my children are in TX, but really, there is no place like it, where else can you have a bus or lightrail/MAX take you ANYWHERE you want to go, Theres bike trails everywhere, which is my favorite thing to do in so far as exercise goes, and the cars actually stop and wait for you. Don’t forget the downtown district with all the unequalled people and places, some of the old record stores, antique book sellers, etc are totally unique in my experience, and the charm of this place really, is after coming back after 10 1/2 yrs, it really hasn’t changed that much, I still know my way around, and most of my same favorite things are right where I left ‘em. Now what other town would be kind enough to stay right where ya put it when ya discard it for an extended period? I love this place, and I’m hoping to get my children to love it as much as I do so they’ll want to stay too.
