Worth visiting!

Basel, my home. I might curse it sometimes but afterall I still love this city with all my heart. And yes, it is beautiful.

Worth visiting!

...was during my Christmas holiday 2005. When I was a small child, we lived just across the border from Basel on the German side. What a beautiful city!

Why I recommend this place to visitors  — 1 year ago

Worth visiting!

Being at the cross roads of France, Switzerland and Germany, it blends all three influences perfectly. A lovely town with lots to do and see!

A tip I have about this place  — 1 year ago

Worth visiting!

I pretty much grew up in Basel. I lived there between the ages of 10-20. I miss it a lot from time to time. The good food; beautiful scenery, great shopping. I also love the culture. There so much to do no matter what your fancy: theatre, art, culinary…

Loved it!  — 2 years ago

Worth visiting!

An unexpected trip, but the only train we could get out of Paris was headed to Basel. Turned out to be the best place we visited during our backpack across Europe trip. Out of the way, non-tourist saturated town. It was great!

Worth visiting!

As far as I can remember I went to Basel twice: when I was seven y.o. (my first trip outside Denmark), and again when I was ten.

Worth visiting!

This has to be one of my favorite cities in Europe. It has great museums and culture events. You can’t go wrong with grabbing some food and going down to the river to watch life pass by. Plus, it isn’t overrun by tourists, which in my book is a plus.

See you... am Barfi bei den Telefonkabinen!  — 2 years ago

Worth visiting!

If you are going to Basel for the first time and have a friend who lives there, suggest “am Barfi bei den Telefonkabinen” (on Barfi by the payphones) as a meeting point. The locals will be blown away by your knowledge. Barfi is the affectionate nickname for Barfüsserplatz, one of the liveliest and friendliest public spaces in this part of Europe. And the payphones… well, you can’t miss them. This is the place everybody meets up in Basel.

The best time to visit Basel February, so you can catch Fasnacht, the carnival with a long local tradition.

Don’t miss the Tinguely fountain in front of the Theater.

I’ll tell you more about Basel when I have time. This is one of my top 5 places in Europe.

Worth visiting!

My home town. A great place if you’re interested in arts: Beyeler Foundation, Kunstmuseum, Musem für Gegenwartskunst (contemporary art), Tinguely Museum, Vitra Design Museum across the border in Germany. It’s a small but very open and international city because of its special location next to France and Germany. Another highlight is the carnival every year.
