i was studying abroad in northern spain. what is amazing is the language, its history- its beauty. love it.

If you can only go one place in spain, it better be here. Beautiful. Authentic. Safe. A cultural billionaire. The bus systems can get you anywhere, even that manifestación (protest) that you have to get to on Saturday afternoon. May I recommend walking to a town (use the camino arrows! most towns are within an hour or so of each other, and what a way to see the country!) Get ready for the trip of your life.

I’ve been twice. This is the land of some of my mother’s ancestors. In Guipuzkoa.

we had a great time. took an overnight bus to san sebastian from madrid. stayed in a great hostel in the center of the city. went out. bought tickets to see 2 movies in the firlm festival (hero and open range) the next day ran into kevin costner at a cafe and he ate breakfast with us. took a bug back two days later. rained a lot when we were there, but it was beautiful

In 2003 I went to Vitoria-Gasteiz in the Basque Country (Euskadi) thanks to the Erasmus programme. I spent there a really good time: people are very nice, the culture and the history of the place are so interesting and the the most important cities of the Country are absolutely worth visiting! Go to Euskadi if you want to spend a really good time ;)

Bilbao is a fascinating place to wander around, and there are plenty of day trips in the area. If you’re a language geek like me you can have fun poking around to hear some spoken Basque.

Breathtaking!

San Sebastian and Pamplona you must visit if you have any soul. The land is beautiful, the folk too, and witty, wise, deep, loving, friendly, strong, just.

Try to stay a while. It’s not a place you can just pass through and really learn about it.

But if time and money are limited, then do enjoy a stay in San Sebastian or any one of the mountain communities where you can find a fine bed and breakfast or country inn. Sample the cuisine. Get a recipe if you can!

I used to spend a lot of weekends in Basque Country… probably this weekend I’ll be in San Sebastian. I think it’s the beautiful city that I’ve ever seen!!!!
And the people in euskadi it’s so cool :D Don’t trust people that are calling them terrorists and shit…
