While I like to think everywhere is worth visiting, some places are more so than others. This should not be on the top of your list unless you have pretty specific reasons (and surely, if you are reading this, you do) and are in the neighborhood. Badakshan area was pretty interesting, very barren, dry, poor. I really only saw Dushanbe (nice markets), Khorog, and passed through Khojand (if I recall). But I did drive to and from Samarkand to Dushanbe which was amazing scenery, with the mountains. Interesting Persian/Russian influences with some Moorish architecture in Dushanbe. Loved the plov, but greasy. I’d say go to Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan and then hit T-stan! I lived here for 5 months in 1996 working for a humanitarian organization and don’t need to return, although I had an amazing experience.
