Try the tarragon lemonade here – it’s a strange luminous green colour but not bad at all!

I loved it. I went with a trip to study developing democracies as Georgia is a country in transition. Amazing… Every time I took a picture, I would review it on the back of my digital camera and would get disappointed. The pictures do NOT do the actual scene justice. But after I got home, I looked over the pictures again and could not believe I was there…

Why I want to go to this place  — 1 year ago

A few years ago I saw the documentary “Power Trip”, about employees of an American company that was trying to privatize the power utility in Tblisi. Apart from the issues involved in that venture, I was taken by the scenes of the city and drawn to see it myself. I’ve been to some far-flung places in Eastern Europe and am just starting to understand a little about what privatization and democratization has meant to real people. I’d very much like to learn more.

I find the idea of it so compelling. The music, the multi-ethnic history, the natural beauty… everyone’s been to Paris and Prague, give me the Caucasus anyday.

One of my favourite countries, Georgia is a bit wild but will maybe become a big tourist destination in the future. The caucasus mountains are amazing, although I didn’t manage to go anywhere too remote like Khevsureti or Tusheti, which was a shame. Tbilisi, I could spend weeks there…and did! The food is great, and the wine excellent…although Georgian hospitality does get a bit heavy at times, when you’re forced to drink ridiculous amounts of wine. Hardly any tourists go there at the moment…some think it is too dangerous, most confuse it with the US state. Now is the time to go…
