I was here in the mid 90’s with the Naval outfit I was stationed with .I don’t really know sometimes why these people fight so hard for these places .The majority of this country is sand and rock. When I was there I was getting ready to come back to the states for some schooling. We had to stay in the Bahrain Hilton witch was very nice.So we were on our way to the Hilton ,and the man who was driving the Hilton van said that he needed to get some petro. So we pulled into the station ,and he found his way to the pump that he liked, and got out of the van .I could feel the heat of the day slap me in the face.Heat is other luxury Item these people have, and plenty of it that for sure.So anyway ,our driver gets out of the vehicle and begins to talk to another gentelman ,and at the dame tim ehe is talking to this person they both keep looking over their shoulders at us.So we are starting to get alittle nervous. Then al of a sudden the man that was driving the van comes over and rips open the door, and says”everyone out of the vehicle” My stomach sank.I thought for sure we wer going to be brodcasted aroud the world as another samefull navy group who was here to destroy the Arab people, when all we relly needed was a little petro. But as we got he began to explain that in his country no one is allowed to be in the vehicle when it is being filled with petro. So we got a little scared over nothing…....Ha but it sure was something I will never forget.

Nothing special. It’s like Dubai of the late 80’s I guess. Coming from someone who lives in the UAE, I thought Bahrain was dull and boring, unless you’re in Saudi Arabia. Then you line up in the traffic-choked bridge connecting the Kingdom to Bahrain and enjoy the weekend!

Bahrain does not have too much to offer tourists than other neighboring countries don’t already provide (like Dubai for example). You can go to the Gold Souks, you can go to the malls, cuisine restaurants, and depending on the time of year, you can go to the Formula 1 races. There are very good restaurants and a lively social scene. Most of the time people come here from Qatar, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia because Bahrain is closer than Dubai and alcohol is legal. One thing Bahrain strives for is bringing cultural events to the community. Our favorite was the King Tut Exhibit at the National Museum. If you want the social scene and alcohol and you’re on a small budget come to Bahrain. If you want to spend more, go to Dubai! (Helpful Bahrain links: http://del.icio.us/bijilah_delou/bahrain)

It’s a small country but really happening. Spend 3 days in Bahrain and did not feel bored at all..Bahraini are nice people and have no problem to interact with tourists.
