Not worth it!

Very beautiful place, but overrun with cruise ships and tourists. I passed through to get to the Alaska Marine Highway ferry—which is indeed worth going (briefly) through Skagway.

Things to do in Skagway  — 1 year ago

Not worth it!

Most people go on the White pass railride.
We chose to go horseback riding instead. It was amazing.

Not worth it!

I really liked Skagway. It still keeps it’s mining town look about it. I did the train excursion up the mountain.
The best thing I did here was a helicopter ride to one of the glaciers where I went dog sledding. It was fantastic. I got to hold a 2 weekd old puppy. It isn’t cheap but it is one of the most unbelievable advetures I have ever done.
of course, nothing completes a good day like a couple of pints of beer at one of the local pubs.

Enjoy!

Worth visiting!

I used to live in Skagway, and it is an awesome place to be in the summer and a horrible place in the winter.

Fun stop  — 2 years ago

Worth visiting!

This was a stop on our cruise and I would say it was worth seeing. While the town pretty much exists for tourism now, they have some interesting history and some old buildings worth checking out. There are various tours (I like tours) to take advantage of, and a train ride going up the mountain to see some breathtaking scenery (as long as you’re on the correct side of the train, be sure to ask).

Lovely Town  — 2 years ago

Worth visiting!

Skagway is a beautiful little town. The highlight of my visit was definitely the White Pass railway trip, which gives breathtaking views – and I’m not normally impressed by scenery! There were five ships in port that day (not including mine, we were docked at Haines), and it was far too crowded in town – I didn’t really get to appreciate what was clearly an “old-timey” rustic main area that harkens back to the gold rush era.
