Worth visiting!

My Girlfriend, my brother, myself and some other Americans were the only people in “the Hobbit bar” on St. Patty’s day who didn’t know the words to some traditional Irish song when it came on the juke box. Everyone else sang along, but we felt left out. The next song that came on was “Living on a Prayer.” We were the only ones who sang to that song. Ha ha. It was awesome.

A review of this place: Weather, Locals, Drunks, not the best time  — 1 year ago

Not worth it!

Out of all the european cities I’ve visited, Cork ranks lowest on the list. Part of this may have had to do with the weather…atrocious winds and rain, but also that a friend of mine was nearly sexually assaulted by a drunken local. That put a damper on the night.
We had a nice time in the pubs we visited, and it was enjoyable taking a bus to Blarney Castle, but Cork wasn’t as exciting as we had hoped it to be. We visited in November, not the best month to visit as most tourist sites were closed for the off season. Additionally, our hostel was the worst accomodation-wise we’ve stayed at. The Kinlay house…beds were terribly uncomfortable, and a group of high school aged students kept everyone up until 3 or 4 each night, and the workers on duty did nothing until someone complained. MAybe it was a string of unlucky happenings, but this was not our favorite stop. We wouldn’t visit again. Killarney is a different story though.

Worth visiting!

Get to know some local people. Finding people is easy and random people sitting at the bar are generally friendly and can help you find some amazing places. From the modern city centre to the pitcuresque countryside, its a very diverse place to travel with something for everyone!!!

If anyone wants to go to Cork, be prepared to learn a bit of Gaelic! Also, be prepared to consume as much beer as your body can take . . .

Why I recommend this place to visitors  — 1 year ago

Worth visiting!

Cork is the second largest city in the Republic but a fraction the size of Dublin. It is slower, a bit more welcoming & a great city to spend some time in. I wish I had had more time while there. I loved it.

Worth visiting!

I moved to Cork at the end of 1998 shortly after getting married. I’ve been here ever since. I’m glad to be out of Dublin and away from the choked infrastructure. Cork has made me welcome and is a good hometown.
