Why I recommend this place to visitors  — 1 year ago

Worth visiting!

York, Maine is a great place for a relaxing, quiet getaway from the hustle and bustle of “too much”. Close enough to Kittery for shopping, close enough to Old Orchard Beach for stuff to do, it is an in-between, enjoyable, quiet, picturesque town. Enjoy the beaches, the small shops, the local buildings, the great dining. Try Long Sands Beach for a day in the sun and surf. Eat at the Goldenrod, or one of the other quaint places. Spend the day at the Wild Kingdom Park and Zoo and ride the rides or visit the animals. Spend the day just sitting, watching the world go by. Oh, and don’t forget the lighthouse!

York Harbor  — 3 years ago

Worth visiting!

My husband and I spent our Honeymoon in York Harbor. We stayed at the York Harbor Inn. It was amazing. We got the top floor suite with a balcony that overlooked the ocean. It was comfortable and cozy. If you visit the York area you need to stop by long sands beach. It is beach as far as the eye can see. The York Harbor beach was small and very private, it if you prefer time to yourself. If you are considering visiting the York area here is a good site to check out: http://www.southernmainecoast.com/

I (try to) live there in the summer  — 3 years ago

Worth visiting!

But it is great at any time of year. Just over the NH border (so only about 12 miles from the Massachusetts border), Mark Twain said about York “You can hardly throw a brick without hitting a postmaster” and that is still true today with 4 post offices within a 3 mile radius!
