Worth visiting!

Well, technically, we stayed at a Victorian mansion in Cranston, but the majority of our day was spent in Providence. It’s a nice quiet city, perfect for a romantic getaway. I highly recommend taking a gondola ride down the river that goes through the center of town.

Not worth it!

I was here two times, and both of those times, the only thing open in the whole city was a library and a pizza place. seemed pretty dead. Maybe I caught it on a bad day? There was nobody on the street either. I thought I was in racoon city until I noticed there where no zombies…

In the positive, there is and Art collective there, called AS220. Really cool people who help out artists, and have a built in gallery, and bar, restaurant to help pay the bills. Support them!

Worth visiting!

Cute little city in New England with nice downtown architecture. Doesn’t aspire to be Boston and that makes it more endearing. Seems like the kind of place where you discover its quirkier side by quieting down and letting it come to you.

Not worth it!

Providence, RI is just another city. I don’t really find anything special about it. I have been to Providence more times than I can count…and more times than I care to. I went there for various reasons…sometimes for theatre conferences, sometimes to just shop at the insanely huge mall and other times to visit with friends. I have never gone to really enjoy the city and in my opinion, there is not much to enjoy.

However, if you do go…

The Providence Place Mall is a great place to go Christmas shopping because it is packed with so many different shops in one convenient location. There is also an IMAX theatre as well as a Dave & Busters on the top floor. Brown University has a gorgeous campus…you should really swing by and check it out. Waterfront Park can be very romantic on a warm summer night and Federal Hill is a very diverse place to visit.

My favorite places to dine in Providence include the chain restaurants: The Cheesecake Factory and Uno Chicago Grill. While it is a chain, the restaurant Fire & Ice is only found in Providence, Boston, Cambridge and Lake Tahoe…it can be a unique experience for anyone who does not live in or near the above mentioned cities. The Union Station Brewery is another good dining option.

Every time I made yet another trip to Providence, I have always stayed at the Biltmore. If I ever visit this city again, I will only stay at the Biltmore. It is very clean, the staff is wonderful, the rooms are spacious and it is very elegant. It has a fitness center as well as a very fancy and cozy Starbucks full of books, games and couches on the lower level. The Biltmore is also home to many events…please know that your stay may be scheduled during the same time a convention or business meeting is being held.

providence stole my heart. i went there for the first time this summer and have intentions of making a move there next fall.

big city in a small town, so charming and quaint. seems like there’s lots of stuff to do there (compared to living in suburbia) without the hassles of a big scary city.

absolutely loved it. beautiful place. go there, now.

i have been to Providence a few times and think its a charming city. It definitely doesnt have the energy of a bigger city, like NYC, but it is a great place nonetheless. I really love the architecture of the downtown area. I considered moving here a while back.

Worth visiting!

blue buses that look like special ed transport. campuses not within walking distance from each other. when i first lived there, homelessness camped out in front of our classrooms. and strip joints put some girls thru college.

then a little tv show came on that coincidentally had the same name as the town. it even kinda looked like us. that was… AFTER i left. typical.

now the place is crawling with delicious award winning restaurants, a providence place mall, gorgeous campuses, and well… mayor cianci did some good in getting rid of the homeless… or at least pushed them somewhere else. or maybe we ate them like fried green tomatoes… sorry. that was mean.
