Why I want to go to this place

The last time I went to Uruguay, I passed through Montevideo, and wished I had passed through Colonia instead. The photos of its golden lamplights, cobblestone streets, and foggy lanes are very intriguing…

The first time I went to this place

it’s a great day trip, like everyone else says! just hop on the buquebus ferry, & you’re good to go! it’s a great town to visit if you want a nice day of walking, a little break from buenos aires!

Good day trip from BA

I took a day trip here after staying in Buenos Aires for two weeks. It was a nice little break. I think the ferry dropped us off at around 9:00 and the returning ferry back to BA left around 20:00 and it was only about $40 US. It was very beautiful, but I was getting bored the last hour or two and ready to go back to BA.

I would definitely recommend it though! I had a few hours of fun sightseeing and learning all the history of that area of Uruguay!

A tip I have about this place

I don’t know for certain the current rules, but when I was in Argentina, I was able to renew my visa every few months by popping over to Colonia. It was gorgeous weather when I went and there was a lovely atmosphere. A good way of getting away from BA.

Good for a day trip

I don’t know if I’d want to stay here for a long time, but it’s fun to go for a day trip. The guy I went with was kinda not into the whole tourist thing, which, if you go to someplace like Colonia you’ve got to enjoy being a tourist. I’ll admit it is a tourist trap, but it’s a fun one.

To me it was real pituresque. I wouldn’t have minded doing the whole stereotypical sit out an easel and paint type deal, but I’d left my paints at home when I went because I only had so much space in my backpack.

Also, it’s good if you’re say staying in Argentina for more than the 90 days you get with your passport, you leave, go to Uruguay, come back in, and low and behold, you’re back to day zero. And, it’s just across the river on the buquebus.

When I went, my friend and I saw the missippi queen from the buquebus window and it made me laugh.

Chivitos

Chivitos are worth the trip to Uruguay. A tough little cut of steak cooked up fast and served on a bun just like a burger.

Nice historic town

Nice if you want to learn the history of Uruguay and this area. Not a very exciting town, and you can certainly cover it in a daytrip. You can use Buquebus to reach it, and you can also take buses to/from Montevideo.

Ciudad colonial

Ciudad de transito para Buenos Aires, guarda un pequenio rincon de ciudad colonial que es encantador. Viejas callecillas con bares y restaurantes, la rambla al rio de la plata, la tranquilidad de las ciudades del interior uruguayo.
