A tip I have about this place

Go when hungry because the tortas are huge. Or you could try a huarache, which is filling as well (the mushroom one is my favorite). The food is very authentic and tasty.

The staff is very friendly. The place is decorated in a tacky-deco-Mexican style, but that’s what you’d expect from your typical Mexican fonda :)

A review of this place: Tortas Gigantes

This place is amazing. I had the breaded flank steak torta. It was as big as my head. I will be back.

A tip I have about this place

They have a few veggie dishes (helpfully marked on their menu). They are mushroom and/or cactus versions of their quesadillas, tortas, and huaraches. I forgot to see what veggie options their breakfast menu contained. And while there is a breakfast menu, their whole menu is available all the time.

The food was good. They have a few dessert options, but I did not try any. Daniel Spils comment below: “The portions are healthy but not sickeningly so like so many bad American/Mexican joints.” is on the mark. They kept us well supplied with chips and salsa.

My first impression was that El Quetzal would be more of a lunch place for me. Upon further thought, I decided that was due to the menu and due to the lack of beer. The lack of beer is a little unfortunate, but refreshing in a way.

How this place changed my life

Thin sliced flank steak breaded and deep fried with ham, beans, cheese, sausage, chipotle in a torta. This place just went to the top of the list of best sando’s in town.

Gracias, El Quetzal!

Thanks to Josh and Eric for bringing Ivan and I to El Queztal for lunch today. Great, authentic mexican food on Beacon Hill. The tortas are inventive and grande (enormous). The portions are healthy but not sickeningly so like so many bad American/Mexican joints.

I hope to go back here many times.

Why I want to go to this place

My brother sent me a link to a review of this place and it sounds promising. Any body have firsthand experience?
