Turku aka: Åbo

Beautiful at Christmastime! In the summer there are great markets, good shopping… Go to Cafe Brahe (If it’s not packed). The best city in Finland.

Went there to visit a friend and loved the city; we went on a trip with their boat up on the river and ended up in the sea, it was great. Ilike the art expositions they have in the streets like a huge spider web and an also huge fish tail coming out of the river. As my friend said: Turku is a city divided in two by a river. It was a great trip.

Well i don’t know when i got this idea to move to turku. but my parents were againts it. They took me there when i was 15. unfortunately it was time for mid-age festival. and i’m history freak. so i moved here after high school. living 600km from my hometown, family and friends and being first of my friends moving from home, has taught me very much. you can’t imagine it before you try it. basically i know myself better now :)

i’ve always wanted to go to Ruisrock, and next year i think ill get my chance with the trip im planning :-) i’d love to check out turku as well as helsinki, so i think thats what ill do!

I recieved a Postcrossing postcard, along with a travel guide, for Turku, and it looks like a beautiful place on the coast of Finland. The photographs reminded me a bit of Stockholm, which I absolutely loved… All the Scandic countries look absolutely beautiful in the summertime… After I read through the travel guide, I decided this was one place I definately needed to visit. Also, the Finnish people seem very nice and welcoming.

My mother’s family all lives in Turku and I’ve visited numerous times. It’s beautiful in summer, especially. Don’t go there in winter unless you like snow!

If you are in Finland and have a little extra time, I recommend checking out Turku in addition to Helsinki. It is possible to take ferries to Turku from Stockholm, so that’s always an option… Turku is about 3 hours by train from Helsinki. It’s got a 400 year old castle that is now a museum and a 400 year old cathedral in the downtown area that is absolutely beautiful. I spent a year there studying as an undergrad and I have a lot of fond memories of the place.

I just wanna go home!
