Grand Canyon

If you go – and you SHOULD, it’ll change your perspective on everything, it’s one of the most beautiful sights in the world – you need to take a helicopter ride out over the canyon. You get to see it much better than if you just stand on the side, and you get some of the greatest pictures. GO – don’t wait any longer! Take a friend, or go yourself, but be sure to see a sunrise over the canyon! I live in Georgia, and everything there is so different – I fell in love. Now I’m counting the days til I can go back. It’ll change your life!

Hiking down into it can be an realizing, spiritual and strenuous experience.

My wife and I went with two Japanese exchange students, Mickey & Naomi, back in the early 1990s (I really don’t remember the year). Anyway it was a cheap sleep in the car kind of trip.

We got there and looked down the canyon, which was really cool. Mickey and Naomi wanted to hike to the bottom, and were really disappointed to find out you need a permit. Since they were wearing sneakers and their water bottles were filled with orange Shasta, permits are probably a good idea (not a lot of desert in Japan, I’m thinking).

The highlight of the trip wasn’t the Grand Canyon, but a quick visit to Colorado City, a freaky polygamist town.

This would be part one of a three part Southwest Road Trip. I want to go to the Grand Canyon because I believe it is an amazing work of nature. I also want to go to all fifty states one day and the Grand Canyon is the thing you do in Arizona.

It is really what it looks like in photos. I suggest people go when its cold. I do not suggest taking unruly kids because it is easy to fall in. I wouldn’t want any kids to fall in.

It is breath taking. Not the scene. The winds are breath taking.

Check out the surrounding reservations for restaurants and order the fried dough triangle. So good I forgot the name.

While camping out on my two day adventure to the Grand Canyon, I came in contact with a six-point buck on my way to the bathroom in the morning. He stared at me. I stared at him. I called my father to ask him what to do and, ever the photog, said, “Take a picture.” Loving my life, I turned slightly to the left and gently, slowly walked away.

I thought I would die the first time I went!! It was frigid cold to me. It was during the winter. I am so used to Mesa AZ heat that is was COLD!!!!!! If you go during the winter and you are not used to 30F then bring lots of jackets!!

It has been a dream of mine to hike in the Grand Canyon. I will go there with my husband for our 6th wedding anniversary trip.
