Spanish Steps aka: Scalinata di Trinità dei Monti

Don’t grab lunch and plan to sit on the steps to enjoy it. No eating on the Steps.

I just would really like to visit Rome and the surrounding regions. I have not been in a very long time.

I found this to be the only “nothing special” tourist area in Rome. Loved Rome but will avoid this place like the plague next time. Cheesy ads hung from the top of the steps really ruined the whole atmosphere.

I was serenaded by an amorous local. It was 12 years ago and late at night. I was a bit nervous walking back to my room alone and so late. The steps were nearly empty except for a few people, including this guy who shouted the usually cavalcade of Bella Bella at me. Having lived in Italy for awhile I was not bothered by this, but I was surprised when he proceeded to climb a few steps and burst into song. He had a wonderful voice and sang a powerful aria. I didn’t know then that it would be my last time there for a long time, so it is a fantastic way to remember the steps.

Crowds everywhere…but great atmosphere. Lots of good shopping in the area. Sit on the steps and do some great people watching!
