Lapland aka: Lappi, Sápmi, Lappland

My nanny and pappy took me and two of my cousins to Lapland to see Santa when I was about 4. I don’t remember much about it only having fun singing Jingle Bells on a sleigh ride! I don’t remember seeing Santa.. but my nanny has a picture somewhere so I know I did! We only went for the day. I would love to go back sometime and stay a few days and seem more and bring a camera!

Why wouldn’t I want to go to this place? What isn’t there? Snow, reindeer, the Northern Lights, insane light and dark timings, and of course SANTA CLAUS!!!

I’ve been to Finland three months ago. Surprisingly I won’t gush how much this country enthralled me, because there is more than that. I felt simply connection with the people and the place. I’m from Central Europe and I love Czech Republic, my home country, but this was similar and totally different at the same time. Never happenned to me while abroad and I sincerely hope to return back soon. Well, I wouldn’t mind spending longer time there :-)
Lapland sounds magical to me. I’m interested in the old myths and legends of Kalevala. I’m poet by nature and this place gave me a lot of inspiration so why not to visit it and experience on my own?

I won a holiday to go on a 4day trip to lapland. Was a good trip. I was 16 at the time, but with younger sisters. So i got to ride a skidoo myself, as well as go on husky dog rides, reindeer rides, sledging etc – was a great trip. Plus I saw santa ;)

i did a project on finland a very very veryyyyy long time ago. and i still think it is just as beautiful.

my bf and i want to get married there.. we were planning to go this christmas.. but seems we hit a lil bump.. in the form of expecting our first child.. so plans have been put aside, but we’re definitely still going to go some day.. it’s an opportunity that may no longer be available to us in the not too distant future.. :)

There seems to be a listing for Lappland as both “Lappi” and “Lappia” now. Well, it’s a great area anyways, no matter the name it is called with. :-)

Snow, ice, deers, ski doo, northern lights (if you are lucky), a weird liquorice liquor, cross country skiing, and.. you can actually hear true silence.
