Changi Airport aka: SIN

Singaporeans must be really really proud of their airport!
It’s like a little mall!
It seems you could find anything in here!
Hahahaha….
I like the design…all matches one another… :)

I left my phone at one of the free internet kiosks :(

Was a wonderful place. I felt a little wierd when I saw military personel at the airport holding machine guns.

It has won Best Airport ten years in a row on sleepinginairports.com and I think it’s got to be great.

This is the best airport I’ve ever been in in the world!
(apart from when I’m landing going home!)
Yummy food, showers, free Internet everywhere, hand over your passport to information and get a free bus tour around town to go shopping (don’t even need a visa!)

I would otherwise NEVER recommand an airport as a main feature when visiting a country. But this is Changi. A town on its own. Well… No old stones there…it’s merely a great shopping mall – as is (to my opinion) Singapore.

I normally don’t get overly excited about most airports. Some of them have little interesting aspects to them, but most of them are about the same. Changi Airport in Singapore is very different. It’s a wonderful place to embark, debark, or make a connection.

Here are some of the things that impressed me about Changi:

1. It’s amazingly clean
2. People who work there are polite and friendly
3. Love the free massage chairs
4. The fish pond is a nice place to relax
5. The rooftop gardens are beautiful
6. Free movies in the airport theater
7. In-transit hotel where you can take a nap, or just a shower between flights if you desire
8. Drinking fountains (a rarity outside the US), automatic ones even
9. Shops had good merchandise at reasonable prices (for an airport)
10. Same with food, good variety, prices not too bad
11. Very modern and aesthetically pleasing
12. Very relaxing atmosphere there overall

I don’t know why anyone would want to visit an airport. To quote Douglas Adams in the first line of his book The Long Dark Tea Time of the Soul, “It is no coincidence that in no known language does the phrase ‘As pretty as an Airport’ appear.”

And on top of that, they charged me something like 6 singapore dollars for a magnum ice cream.

I’ve been through this Airport a lot of times. Since I lived in Singapore almost all my life, we always had to come here to fly to Austria or somewhere else. And of course pick people up too.

It’s clean and effitient. Everything just works and it’s not too big. Nicely laid out. I know my way around here pretty well :) Signage is supperb. And toilets are always clean. (most important!!) I think it’s good that the MRT goes there too. And there’s always taxi’s there. There’s also a lot of food choices. And book shops etc. Anything you would normally find in an airport anyway.
