Taco Cabana

Worth visiting!

The first time I went to this place

It was the very first place I ever ate at in TX. A fast food place with margaritas!

The first time I went to this place

. . . was spring, 1985 at the Loop 410/Bandera Rd (whatever intersection is the next one east on 410 from Ingram Rd) location. (I saw others last time in Texas in late 80s)

Long story short, very hot day, very poor underage midwesterners hungry and in need of “cold beverages” :-P

14 bucks bought a giant plate of Fajitas, two pitchers of frozen margaritas and two Corona beers!

An oasis!!! I haven’t thought about it in years! I’m sure it’s a little more expensive now, but, always worth it, no doubt.

P.S. 2 strapping young lads couldn’t finish all the food and the drinks were “stout” . . . we were hammered . . . for $14!!!

Taco Cabana

The original Taco Cabana is in San Antonio and it is fab! We stopped in there this year after a trip to San Antonio Zoo. The margaritas are damn good but be warned they will sneek up on you so be very careful :-)

How this place changed my life

I first encountered Taco Cabana while in exile in Austin, Texas after Hurricane Katrina. My friend Vivek introduced it to me, and it has since been an obsession…every time I leave New Orleans to visit Texas, which is about once a month, I HAVE to go to TC for black bean burritos with fresh pico de gallo and some lime. The food is kinda fattening, but it tastes SO good.
