Why I recommend this place to visitors

It is MUCH better than the Toronto Zoo. The Toronto Zoo has NOTHING compared to the Calgary Zoo.

A tip I have about this place

Don’t walk to the zoo from downtown. The walk itself is doable (and the scenery is beautiful) but you’re just going to walk more at the zoo, and then you’ll have to walk back to downtown again.

I love this zoo. I’ve had a pass my entire life and seen so many changes. So many beloved animals pass on or go to other zoos, new ones being born and coming from other zoos. There is so much developement going on, I can’t wait for it to all be finished. One time I was in the Destination Africa building with my family and the hippo decided to “mark it’s territory”. For those that don’t know it involves using the bath room, and flinging the product with it’s tail. Enough said, most memorable moment at the zoo for me, especially because I didn’t get hit.

Zoo

Ive been here about a million times. Since i was born in Calgary. I suggest that you go to the zoo in the summer, since it is warm enough for all the animals to be out. Plus they are renovating alot of the zoo. So i would come back when there finished.

The first time I went to this place

I was really, really disappointed with my first few minutes at the zoo, and I was thinking to myself, “NOT WORTH VISITING!” The red panda(s), as well as numerous other animals, were missing from their habitats. It got better as we worked our way through the zoo, but since I had really wanted to see the red panda(s), that was disappointing. The Canadian wildlands exhibits in particular was good.
If I went back, I’d prefer to go at a different time of year and not on a Monday (we went on the last Monday in October, the day after “Boo at the Zoo” ended). The zoo was frightening understaffed during our visit, which may have been part of the problem.
