The last time I went to this place

This little silver mining town is really worth visiting. You’ll come for the peyote, but stay for the beautiful surroundings!

A tip I have about this place

if you go up the road out of town you’ll see the entrance to an old silver mine. walk in only a few yards and you’ll start to get a feel for the sacrifice all the workers made for centuries. It’ll make you appreciate the beautiful artwork you’ll see in the churches that much more.

A tip I have about this place

I echo the other entries and add that the church supposedly has a fantastic collection of retablos that I would have loved to see and missed while there.

The last time I went to this place

You feel as if you’ve been transported back in time when your in Real de Catorce. The view from the highest points in the town are incredible. I definitely want to go back so I can take a horse ride to the mines or the dessert as are offered by locals. When I visited, many of its buildings were half ruined and there were also a good mix of new construction. This is not the place to go if your looking for a luxury vacation. The mountains are amazing, as your driving to this town. The locals a good mix of foreign “hippies” and the people who have settled there decades before.

How this place changed my life

This is a magical place. After travelling through the 1.5 mile tunnel, you feel like you’re being reborn into the past. Catorce has a simple elegance and a strong sense of history that is fantastic. Go there if you can.

I’ve been here. I’d like to go back. But I have a worry about going back to places that were special, as it’s hard not to have expectations.
