Watch out for the Caribinieri

We have a propensity for sticking our feet in fountains in Roma. OK, that’s not a good habit; we started doing it in the Piazza Navonne where it seems the fountains are used for almost everything—kiddie pools, dog baths, homeless baths, etc. The lovely thing about the fountains in Roma is that they are spring-fed, so it can be incredibly refreshing to cool your feet in them on a blistering summer day. For the most part the police don’t seem to mind; we have had them drive past us, smile, and drive on during our foot-bathing episodes.

Except in the Piazza di Spagna. For some reason, they greatly frown on soaking your feet in this piazza.

Shopaholic's Paradise

So many beautiful things to buy and so little money…so I did mostly window shopping instead. Got to get there early so you are not bumping into other tourists all the time in the tiny shop space. I bought a set of dematasse for Tina and they are sitting somewhere in my basement…

Finally got a glimpse of that beautiful mansion at the top of the Spanish steps (can’t remember the name of the movie that was filmed there) – my dream house!

Untitled

I stood in Piazza di Spagna last night! It’s at the bottom of the Spanish Steps and has a beautiful big fountain called the Barcaccia Fountain, which means the Fountain of the Old Boat.

would be nicer if it was deserted...

pretty. nice place to eat gelato or other sweets. we were hassled by men and people selling posters of Mr. T and other greats while we were there. we still went back a second time, though. oh, and there’s a bizarrely nice McDonald’s around the corner.

Where I Popped the Question

I proposed to my wife here on new years eve. Not quite as romantic as I had hoped with all the partying going on but still very memorable.

Go in the springtime when it's covered in flowers.

I went a few days ago and it was covered in tourists, but no flowers. Still an awesome place though. The Spanish Steps are beautiful – just like everywhere else in Rome.
