Miami International Airport aka: MIA

I was there years ago (1981) on a school trip. We stayed at MIA the night before boarding on a Cruise to the carribean on The Fun Ship Carnival.

What a blast we had – it seems like yesterday as the fun was intense. Years later I still have a passion to go again and I am sure there are thousands of changes since 1981. Even then it was an amazing airport.

Hope to go again someday before departing from this world.

I spent an entire day in this airport not knowing why I was so sick until a few weeks later, but I spent my time in the woman’s bathroom puking all day, come to find out, hubby and I made a baby on our honeymoon.

When our flight landed, the whole airport was shut down because Air Force One had just landed and the President was walking through on the way to a special benefit dinner hosted by the governor. Secret service was EVERYWHERE.

Suckiest airport ever. No food and not enough seats.

It’s a big airport, with flights the whole day. You have to be careful because there are so many terminals that you can easily get lost.

I spent 3 nights sleeping on the floor in this airport when hurricane Andrew surprised us. It was our group trip after finishing University so we were a group of around 30 people. The biggest problem for me was merely washing up without taking a real bath for 3 days. Our ambassy came to pick us up with a bus and took us to a motel for one night in Palm Beach. We took a flight from South Miami airport since the Miami International airport was closed for some time.

When I went to Venezuela we flew out of MIA and it was such a melting pot,it was great to just observe.

We connected with a Varig Airlines flight on our way down to Brazil… The airport had a distinctive Latin feel about it… We certainly felt out of place at our gate.

Fly into Ft. Lauderdale instead!
