Fort Myers Beach

Staying on Sanibel Island is great to get away from the crowds, but if you want more nightlife than Sanibel has to offer, I would say- take a drive to Fort Meyer’s Beach.

Jackie, Tashina, and I went to Fort Myers Beach on New Year’s Eve. It was fantastic! There was a different band in every bar and on every street corner, thousands of people, and a great fireworks show.

If you love shelling, you’ll love this beach.

The sand has the consistency of powdered sugar. It’s also a beautiful beach with calm waters (not good for surfing). It can get crowded, but there are some tricks to finding unpopulated spots and easy parking spaces – ask me if you want to find out.

Coming from Sanibel, where they keep the commercialization to a bare minimum, it just seemed overdone and cheesy. Also, the beach was the dirtiest I’ve ever seen, due to the red tide that year. Lots of dead things.

while it may not be as hip as daytona et. al, it is a little bit more peaceful. it attracts lots of families, and a good number of college kids at spring break. this place also features lots of condos, a nice pier, and a little shops in a brick boardwalk type atmosphere. a hooters is also here. the beach itself has eroded somewhat due to hurricanes charley and wilma. nevertheless, it offers the most breathtaking, scenic, views with all the necessary beachside attractions in southwest florida and a great place to spend your vacation, honeymoon, etc. the dairy queen is always packed and parking spots are hard to come by. so be sure to arrive early!
