I believe I was here when I was younger, though when I went the last time, it was much smaller than I remember… its a really nice tea garden but it took about half an hour to walk through the whole thing. Entrance fee is about $5.

This was the first Japanese-style garden I ever visited as a child. It was beautiful, but mostly I remember the small trinkets from the gift shop that my parents bought for me.
The next time I visited was in my early teen years, and I truly appreciated the beauty of the place. I was very interested in gardens at the time (thinking of a career in it in fact), and I marveled at the care and detail that went into the place.
The third and most recent time I visited, part of the garden was undergoing renovation, and the whole area seemed smaller. I’m not sure if it was because of the renovation closing things down, or because my view of the world had grown. Either way, it was still completely gorgeous and worthwhile to visit again.

Finally made it to the Tea Garden today. We had Hot tea and fortune cookies and I took this great shot from where we were sitting.
After wandering around the garden we headed over to the de young museum and tonight is the Giant’s game! I am getting a big dose of tourism this weekend….. whew!

It’s really a little slice of bliss just far enough away from the hustle and bustle of the mean streets of sf. Get the cookies, get the tea!

I just got a beautiful triptych as a housewarming gift that shows a temple, a buddha, and a sakura tree. I would’ve sworn the images could’ve only been taken in Japan, but they were taken in the Tea Garden that is so close by. I’ve been there once when I was probably 10 years old, but have only the vaguest recollection of it- though it is a very positive vague recollection. I’ll be going there with my brother on Feb. 16th. It’s settled.

A beautiful Japanese Garden with streams and bridges—very peaceful.
You can buy a cup of traditional green
or jasmine tea and cookies and really relax.
