Worth visiting!

The first time I went to this place

I’m amazed. The world’s tallest building, best man made structure until now… This place is worth visiting, but don’t forget to get the floor map or else you might get lost :D..

The first time I went to this place

I was there during the opening. After I was done with all my meetings, I practically dragged my Taiwanese colleagues (Olivia and Helen) to Taipei 101 so that we can actually be among the first customers who will set foot inside this towering structure.

I’m very happy to be able to experience Taipei 101, now the World’s Tallest Building (beating the Petronas Towers in Malaysia) =D

A tip I have about this place

For Postcard collector:
I love the portal service there. Just buy a postcard and stamp there (on the 89th floor), then you may choose to stamp “Family”, “Friend” or “Lover”. I love it. It was totally cute.

A review of this place: Didn't really seem that tall...

...I guess it was because there were no tall building surrounding it… so there were no comparisons. The elevator was awesome… hella fast. Good views, but again it’s like any other observatory anywhere else in the world. The shopping centre downstairs did make a difference, and the food court on the bottom floor was absolutely fantastic.

And I personally likes the design.

Taipei 101

I’ve been to Taipei 101 several times and just last week, I finally managed to get a decent picture! We bought tickets to the sky deck and took a super-fast elevator up to the 90th floor. The view of Taipei is amazing on a clear day. You can see for miles.

The shopping mall is nice to walk around in, and the architecture is fantastic. I really like going to 101 so I can go to Page One and Jason’s Supermarket. The shopping is fantastic, which is why I try not to go too often…

Why I recommend this place to visitors

If you’re going to be in Taipei sometime in the near future, Taipei 101 is worth visiting just because of its status as a record-holder. The mall below is a great place to browse. Shopping can get a bit pricy, although Page One bookstore has a gigantic selection of books in English at reasonable prices. Don’t miss the jewelry stores—amazing stuff you can try on at unbelievably low prices (compared to the US, at least). Also, watch out for the round colored lights in the sidewalk outside. The mark the location where a “dancing fountain” is built into the sidewalk. When a light is on, that area is about to spray.

It’s a nice place to visit, but don’t worry too much if you miss it, and definitely don’t come to Taipei just to see it or with it in mind as a top destination. There’s plenty of other great things to see (YangMingShan, night markets, sandy ice, bubble tea, etc).

Also, the building really doesn’t look that big. There are buildings in Pittsburgh, PA that seem a lot taller.

Not really a fan of Chinese-inspired architecture

The building is certainly impressive on account of its towering height. But I can’t appreciate its design :(
