I was fortunate enough to see the travelling collection of Rembrant’s etchings. The prints were amazing.

I spent many Saturdays at the museum...

attending the Saturday morning art classes that were held here and brought together students from schools all over the Pittsburgh area. Sometimes we went to the galleries to sketch, and other times we went outdoors. The teacher for my first three years was Mr. Fitzpatrick, who also taught my father back when he took Saturday morning art classes. I wonder whether these classes are still offered today.

I also remember going to art shows at the museum with my father, and puzzling over Andy Warhol’s paintings of soup cans. Andy Warhol was also an alumnus of the Saturday morning art classes, and a student of Mr. Fitzpatrick, and grew up in a small house in Oakland right down the street from the museum.

The last time I went to this place

I haven’t been here for maybe 15 years. I never spent much time at the Art Museum, when I was younger I just wanted to see the dinosaurs and stuffed and mounted animals at the Natural History museum in the same building.

They had this salon exhibit a few years back, and it was one of the best exhibits at an art museum ever.
