Kentucky Derby

I lived in Louisville for the first 22 years of my life but I never went to the derby (because it’s just a tourist thing right? :)) But I’d love to go back and experience the quintessential Louisville event.

It’s a traditionally Southern event. Not much fun if you aren’t among the ‘horsey’ set, but a party nonetheless.

I loved horse racing when I was little and still like to watch the Derby on TV. I’d like to see it in person just once. This year it’s on my birthday.

Don’t forget your sunscreen. Kentucky Derby = a long, mostly drunken, day in the sun.

I can think of no other really good reason to bear the unbearable crowds, drunks, and traffic. But once you are inside, it’s fun. And they’re off…...

I went last year, and we arrived at about 9 am and sat in the pit all day. I didn’t enjoy the wait too much, but once the race started, it was unforgetable.
