A review of this place: Boo

I guess I have to admit we went because of Ghost Hunters. :) Have been twice now. I like the hotel overall, very nice grounds, rooms are pretty nice, has the flavor of a nice, old, Colorado mountain hotel (and I’ve stayed in several). Haven’t seen any ghosts :) But definitely take the ghost tour if you’re into that. It is pretty fun.

Haunted! Didn’t believe in ghosts until I worked here. There’s a lot of history in this place, the manor house was used as a tuberculosis ward until it was closed in the 20s, it was reopened using the money given to the hotel for rennovation after filming the TV version of ‘The Shining’. Steven Kind stayed here while writing the book. Recently there was a convention with members of TAPS and experts on paranormal research. Tickets were too expensive for me to attend.

Beautiful Hotel...

Very nice place and town to visit. That being said, “Red rum, red rum”...”Here’s Johnny!”

Why I recommend this place to visitors

If you have ever seen the Shining (and if you haven’t, crawl out of your hole), then you HAVE to visit here. Just seeing it for yourself really brings it all to life. I do still want to go stay there, just to say I have.

road trip!

Me and my best friend took off one morning randomly to drive here. The hotel and landscape are both really pretty along with a great view of the town below.
They give guided tours everyday, there’s a muesuem like thing in the basement and they talk about the haunted things that supposedly go on.
My friend and I promptly lost the tour guide and wandered around ourselves. The only cool thing I remember is a place I called the “Door of No Return” We snuck past the construction crew working to block it off, so I highly doubt it’s still there. You open this door at the end of a hallway and right away you’re looking straight down a very long ways down. I think we were on one of the highest floors.

I don’t think the place is haunted. I left with a huge headache, and an uneasy feeling in my stomach but I believe it was because I was dehydrated. It’s an awesome place, but seriously a large part of the ambiance is because of Stephen King. Otherwise it’s your basic old, big hotel.

Got a great memento!

I have always wanted to go here! I love the movie, and have always thought the hotel was georgeous! Some friends of mine went last year, and the brought me back the coolest thing! The room key from room 217! (of course it’s not the real key, just one they sell in the gift shop, but still very cool!) It just makes me want to go there even more, though! I can hardly wait until I get the chance!
