Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport aka: DTW, Wayne County Airport, Detroit Metro Airport

The renovations are nice, but the wait for baggage is nearly unbearable.

if you have some time it’s a ok place to be… if bad things happen it’s a crappy place to be.

My flight was connecting at this airport and since I was on standby, the airline told me that I wouldn’t get on another flight for nine hours! Luckily, this is the perfect airport to get stranded in. I had lunch at a Mexican restaurant and the service was great. I looked into the shops and went from one end of the airport to another on the bullet train.
I love how modern the airport is and they also have a Westin hotel inside. Thankfully, I didn’t have stay nine hours at the airport. I got on a flight within two hours, but I was left so impressed by this airport that I would probably go to Detroit just to stay there!

Remarkably clean and rather empty but then again it is only 5am local time. Fortunately the coffee shops were open. Wi-Fi is pay unlike my home airport (PDX). At least it doesn’t suck as bad as St. Louis :)

Least boring layover I ever had. And there are places you can smoke!

There was about a year when I flew through Detroit consistently, and all I remember is that they were remodeling at the time. There must have been some sort of ventilation problem, because just one little Taco Bell stand had the whole airport smelling like chalupas.

Its worth visiting if you want to take pictures of the place, or maybe of planes coming in for a landing.

Take a one hour flight to somewhere…OHIO…and go to Cedar Point.

The airport in itself is worth visiting. Well organized and clean.
The buses taking you from place to place are conveniant.
Park your car in the blue parking lot if you are going on a long or short trip. It is shaded and cheap.
The bus will take you where you need to go.
I loved the fountains they had inside.
I also loved the rainbow walkway.

My favourite airport to travel from.

It wouldn’t be my father’s choice for taking/meeting me for flights… it’s harder to get to than Buffalo… longer wait time at the border and (I believe) more interstate travel to get to the actual airport.

However, the airport itself was good and I hear it is much improved over the past. I wouldn’t have a probably flying into or out of Detroit again, though it wouldn’t be my top choice.

The airport doesn’t look like a refugee camp anymore. The hazy flourescent pallor from 1966 is gone, too.
