Oklahoma City National Memorial, Oklahoma City

A Quiet Place by russellviii

I visited one night. After working all day I stopped by the site of the memorial.

The bomb went off at 9:02 a.m. There were archways at either endof the memorial. One had the time 9:01 inscribed on it, to indicate the last minute of peace harmony. The other one said 9:03, to represent the time when the world around was changed forever.

There were a number of different memorials throughout the grounds. One was a tribute showing empty chairs, one for each of the victims. The children were represented by small chairs. The chairs each bear the name of one of the victims and are placed in a special pattern to represent where each of the victims was at the time of the disaster.

It was kind of eerie, particularly at night; beautiful, yet tragic.

It was my 3rd date ... by Karlita_Bandita

… with the man who became my husband. Strange, huh? It wasn’t all that bad, but the museum made me rather emotional. If you do visit, treat it as a somber place. Respect it and those who died there, please.

Words cannot describe the impact this place has on you when you visit. It reminds you of how grateful we shouls all be to live in this country. The events that occurred here are appalling and sobering, but the way we came together as a nation is both inspiring and memorable.

My DH and I were traveling from the east the the west coast. This was one of the places we stopped. We wanted to see this before we even headed to our hotel, but didn’t have a local map of the area right on hand. We drove around for awhile trying to find this place, and then we finally drove down the road that leads right to it. It’s a beautiful memorial.

Very sobering place to visit by jazzie2421

This is a must-see place to go when in OKC, it’s a very solemn, very reflective place. Very nicely memorialized.

it’s absolutely beautiful, and so serene. i haven’t been in the museum yet. i didn’t know anyone involved, so i kind of feel like it’s not my business. i don’t know. definitely visit the site, though.

i was in town for a conference by ovoadmala

a couple of us walked over one night to see it. (it’s illuminated beautifully at night.) i always feel a little morbid, like i’m gawking at these things, and so it was a little uncomfortable in that regard. the little chairs were quite upsetting; i was glad it was night.

Plan a full day to visit. Pay attention to the size of the chairs outside, the little chairs are for the children. :-(
