for two years in the early eighties. I lived with her and Dad, who was recovering from a heart attack, for about four months. We lived off base, but she taught at the elementary school there.
I worked at the PX for a few weeks, but it was pretty awful, so I decided to go back to the States and get back into college.

You’re too late tho – i just read that the keys to the base were handed over to the Germans today. I lived on Rhein Main AFB over 30 years ago when my dad was stationed there. I lived there 4 years, so it was a big part of my life. It’s a little sad to hear that the buildings will be bulldozed over – part of me would love to go back & visit the 3rd floor apartment we lived in – sigh – memories!

During the loooong flight from Kuwait to Atlanta (and on the return trip) we stopped here to drop off (pick up) passengers and were allowed in the terminal to stretch our legs.
The U.S. Air Force turned the base back over to the Germans earlier this week, so I doubt I will be back, at least not in a military capacity.
