I grew up here….you can take Ashland out of the girl, but… the bigger this world gets, the more those memories mean. I have not been back in awhile, lots of changes, and lots of those things I knew are gone. Ashland is my Avalon, where my roots will always be- even if it was just a time and place. If you are visiting, I can’t help you there. I am just glad I was born and raised there. It shaped the foundation of who I became.

When I was a teenager, I couldn’t wait to leave the area. After traveling and living farther north for a while, I couldn’t wait to come back. You can live in this city without fear. It’s a good place to raise your children. In fact that is why we came back here in the first place.

Ashland is a small town. There’s nothing edgy or flashy here, but there is a lot of family oriented fun. Central Park, Summer Motion, Winter Wonderland of Lights and iceskating .. . these are a few of the things to enjoy here. And hold on to your cowboy hat if you’re a country music fan, because this is a major stop on the Country Music Highway.
Even though I don’t like country music, there is plenty to keep me here. The town of Ashland is striving to reinvent itself. There is the new Pendleton Art Center which will be the first stop of the Jimi Hendrix watercolor exhibit Oct. 7 & 8, 2005. The city has just been awarded $10.22 million for riverfront development. I look forward to what will happen with that money.
So there you have it. Ashland, KY, USA. Where my heart is.
