News about this place

I randomly saw a bunch of people on the tennis courts this Friday. It turned out that they were having a massive game of dodgeball. I joined in and had a ton of fun. There must have been about 70 of us playing. Apparently they do this every Tuesday and Friday.

great kid/adult park

Alyssa and I took my brother, nephew and neice here this past Sunday. The nephew (3 years old) went twice and loved the playground both times. It’s a great park for many reasons—but it’s good for adults and kids. The play area for kids and the walking paths, grass and fountain for adults. Actually, the kids love all those features, too.

Simply awesome

This is such a nice park. The area really needed it.

Worked for Landscape Architects that designed this park

This is a really great park, and my favorite project to date by a firm I did web design and marketing for, The Berger Partnership.

It’s got a lot of great details and an historic, ‘grand central park’ kind of feel.

The water feature is something else, a collaboration with the LA’s, Parks and San Francisco artist Doug Hollis. The texture blocks are cool, I enjoy it more when the pool is not actually full.

Definately a great place to stroll if you happen to be in Capitol Hill. Here’s the Seattle Parks Department Page

My Central Park.

Mere blocks from my apartment, across the street from work.

Most likely the best spot to suntan during summer in Cap Hill. Too bad it only reopened to the public in September, now I’ve gotta wait a year.

Did you know people and dogs are not allowed in the new rock pool and reflection pool? It’s actual reservoir water, we’d apparently contaminate it or something. C’mon, SPU, play nice. I mean, I can’t wait until you decide to refill the wading pool, I need to walk on water now.

I’ve also gotta find a soccer team to play on the immaculate new astroturf pitch, but that whole area is named after someone else, now isn’t it?

Who the hell is Cal Anderson, and why does he get a park?

I guess I could have read the signs. Anyway, this is a nice park. It was freezing cold today so it was pretty empty. I wonder where the junkies went though.

A great park.

This is a great park because it has a lot of benches, a fountain, grassy hills on which to sit, and is located only a few blocks from our office in the center of Capitol Hill. In the short time it’s been open, I’ve gone about half a dozen times and each time find a variety of people (some with dogs, some with babies, some with laptops, some with soccer balls), all hanging out together and enjoying the city. There’s a little bit of uncertainty about whether or not a certain demographic will “claim” the park, but I hope it continues to be a comfortable place for everyone: hippies, yuppies, indie rockers, hipsters, and everything in between and around.

Teletubby Hill

Crazy posters all over Cap Hill regarding Teletubby Hill and a test of the relaxed pot laws in Seattle. Could be a nutty Saturday.

I’ll avoid the fun and head to the movies.

Park is open!

What a nice surprise. I’ve been walking by the construction for almost 2 years and wondered why it was taking so long. And, “what IS that monolith brick structure?”. Well, water flows out the top of the monolith, down a chute, into a cascading water sculpture, into a wading pool that ulitmately pours over the back end of the park with an infinity pool effect.

A nice corner of the park is dedicated to playground toys and swings. Great job!
