A review of this place

Corn Dogs, Dave Ryan (the best morning show ever), food, beer, rides, food, concerts, cookies, old people, kids and food…oh did I mention there’s food? haha bring some money!

It’s pretty tight…minus the smell and the old people and kids – they get annoying. The place gets pretty crowded and people don’t know how to walk but overall its fun.

Why I recommend this place to visitors

The state fair is fantastic. I go every year with my family, we eat, ride rides, eat, see all the exhibits and animals, eat, and do every silly free thing we can (pretend fishing for marlins, hammering nails, everything). There is so much to do eat and see that we never get bored, never see it all, and always want to return.

Why I want to go to this place

Because i keep hearing how much fun it is. And we don’t get a great deal of food on sticks in this country, probably limited to satay chicken from the local takeaway or tiger prawns when we have a barbecue, although I did once make Pineapple kebabs..

I have a feeling that the food on sticks at the state fair would be slightly less healthy..

I want to see the butter sculptures!

I try to schedule a trip back home to MN every August just to go to the fair!

Funny story: The first time my mom, who grew up in St. Paul, visited me in NYC she said, “Wow, all of these people in this city. It’s like the State Fair!”

A tip I have about this place

Grab a bucket of cookies from Sweet Annies, then head over to the milk booth. It’s delicious to have warm cookies and cold milk.

A tip I have about this place

There is some great food at the State Fair, and there are new foods “on-a-stick” every year. Some foods I recommend are the cheese curds, fresh fries, corn roast, milkshake from the dairy building, corn dog, 1919 root beer, fresh lemonade, turkey drumstick and the carmel apple sundae.
Some fun things to do are the dog building, the 4-H building and musical, the creative activities building, the horticulture building, the baby animals barn, the education building and of course the dairy building with the sculptures of the dairy princesses carved in butter.

I have never seen so much fried food and so many awesomely weird crafts in my life! I saw a sheep judging contest, and the judge listed the animals’ best traits with that dispassionate tone of voice that sports announcers use to talk about an athlete’s best qualities. Plus, I heard “Hotel California” played on the panpipes and “Break on through to the Other Side” played by a polka band. Not a something I plan to do every year, but worth seeing once or twice. Definitely go on a day that’s less crowded…

Why I recommend this place to visitors

I love the state fair I’ve gone most every year since I was a baby. it is a Minnesota Tradition everyone I know goes to the fair you can’t live in Minnesota and not go to the fair (well you could, but what would be the fun in that) and if you visit Minnesota at that time go to the fair it’s fun. it’s fun scouting out free crap that you throw away once you get home and all the exhbits and Food are great. the food is the main reason to go Mini Donuts, Funnel Cakes, Pronto pups and basically anything on a stick you can think of.
