Fernie

So I’m told. (Don’t ski, at least not downhill.) Nice little town, in BC’s Rocky Mountains. The downtown area shows signs of a time when Fernie had a better economy.

Too small for me to move to, but a nice mountain town nonetheless.

I lived in Fernie during the 1998-1999 ski season. It is a very cute little town with friendly locals and a nice feel.

The mountain is fantastic. The snow is great, the runs are really varied and fun and it is not very crowded (because it is fairly out of the way). I had a great season – although it would be have been good if there were more females in town for the season…

We went to a ski resort in the summer, took the lift up and went on a great hike. There was hardly anyone around, a great way to enjoy the beautiful mountains and scenery without being surrounded by crowds.. Plus its much cheaper than Banff

This place is brilliant, especially in summer. Get the Canadian Rockies experience without the crowds of Banff. More critters, more mountains, more mountain biking in what they consider low season. Spent ten days here and loved every moment. Great for mountain biking and then you can go hike a Rocky in the afternoon.

Yay! My DH and I are going to Fernie on Sunday, we have a place at the base of the lifts…exciting stuff!

Plus the Canadian Rockies are unbeatable. Ever been to the rockies? Well they go up north over the border where they spread out and have loads of snow dunped on them. The roads go through tunnels that were built for the sole purpose of avalanche protection.

Fernie is a quiet little town with a great local culture. It’s a bit off the beaten track so don’t go there expecting a bunch of galleries, high end shops or a hipster scene.

Well Fernie is way better! But shhhh don’t tell anyone. Beautiful mountain, amazing skiing and no line ups! (Plus it helps that I have family here)

I was in Fernie in February 2004 on a snowboarding trip. The resort was great with a wide variety of challenging runs.

I’ve been to Fernie for both skiing and golf, and both were great. A nice Canadian small town, with a great local ski hill, and a beautiful golf course!
