Fun area of Washington

There’s Lake Washington Park, where you can see the San Juans, and nearby is Deception Pass, which is pretty cool. But mostly the best thing was this “country store” that sells the BEST MUFFINS ON THE FACE OF THE PLANET. And I’m not traditionally a muffin fan… every bite was good, and wasn’t just the muffin top… we even left half in the car, came back later, and it was still moist and delicious. Every day has different flavors… I had a “vanilla mocha” muffin, my friend had a “maui” one, and my cousin did a “camamel chocolate” one. Go out of your way for this!

The first time I went to this place

I was there for whale watching. Orcas were swimming just near our boat. I also saw harbour seals and eagles. It goes near to Deception Pass too.
You can see some “brown eyed rock sausages”, as our guide called seals, in the photo.

A review of this place

Probably one of my favourite cities on earth. Truly amazing scenery, nice people, wonderful restaurants, very peaceful atmosphere. Head on over to the Department of Safety after you take a ferry out into the San Juans and check out some local artists.

Just passed through

We stayed at the Anaco Inn on our way through to the San Juans. The hotel was fantastic for the price. I wanted to explore the town a little more, and did not have time to do so. Definitely want to go back and see what is in store.

My grandparents live here. I visit them once a month or so. It’s so beautiful up here

Had a girlfriend from here

and it was a rather great place. Small town, kind people, good history and the ferry can take you quickly to other amazingly beautiful islands nearby. The San Juan Islands are gorgeous.

Untitled

I spent a couple of weeks up here with my dad and my brother hauling and painting a boat. Every morning we’d get a thermos of coffee from the wonderful folks at Penguin Coffee, and when it got dark we’d repair to the excellent pub for a CBGB burger and very good beer. We did squeeze in time in between to wander around this cool old nautical town, and I always like to stop in when I can. Don’t miss the ESB at the brewery attached to the Rockfish. Or the nautical supply store filled with a hundred years of all things brass, and lots that aren’t. Everyone was friendly and cool, and if I had to live in a small town Anacortes would head up the list.

Yeah, so I grew up here...

I was born in Anaheim, CA, but my family moved to Anacortes when I was 10 months, so I’ve really only known Anacortes as home.

It’s a beautiful little town in the Northwest Washington. July thru September it is one of the most beautiful locations I’ve been to, but the rest of the year it’s a bit gray. If I didn’t live here, I could see coming here for the boating, the San Juan Islands, and good food!

Department of Safety

Anacortes is a very cool little town- perfect for stopovers when you are taking the Washington State Ferry to Victoria. The folks at the Department of Safety will take care of you and you can go look around at their art gallery and read all their zines and listen to all their records. They won’t care. There are good little coffee places and the views of the ocean are amazing.
