How this place changed my life
I was born in the St. Charles Hospital. It’s the one with the big cross at the top of the hill.

Aside from Port Jeff being a quaint town to visit, a friend used to bartend downstairs at Danford’s back when I was underage. I will always have fond memories of that place. :o)

When I think Long Island, North Shore – this is the place I think of. Home of one of the richest communities in Suffolk County (Belle Terre), this is one of the best places to go to see glacial evidence and wonder around in port, eating fabulous pizza. Even the McDonald’s here is cool – it serves lobster from time to time and has a huge skylight. When I visit here, I feel that I’ve left the strip mall, over urbanization of the island and entered into a different time. However, I will admit that this place is very touristy and can be very crowded and crazy on Fridays and Saturdays during the summer. Best time to visit is early Sunday evening – all the stores are still open and most people are home getting ready for the next day.

Nice spot to go to at night just to walk around, or hit up a bar or whatnot. There’s a ferry and some really nice restaurants around, too. if you’re ever in town, ask about going down port, or to port jeff.

I visited his parents’ house, and a few restaurants right near the waterfront. I can’t remember the name of the restaurant though.

It’s a cutsie, little tourist town, and it’s as urban as you’ll get in this part of Suffolk county. There’s a harbor, ferry, lots of shops and many restaurants, ranging from decent to quite good (Japanese, Chinese, pizza, upscale Italian, a steak house or two, seafood, a great little fish market, etc.) There’s also a thriving night life, with several bars, although many nights it tends to be overrun with loud teenagers. It gets really crowded in the summer, and parking is a pain in the ass, but if you’re in the area and want to see something other than suburb after suburb, Port Jeff is worth a look.
