East Lansing

Best decision of my life to goto MSU. The people are friendly and very helpful. The campus is beautiful and the weather is great (well I’m from Michigan). I met truely some of my best friends.

We Spartans know how to party too!!!

Michigan State University has grown on me a lot- especially as a local. I grew up in this town when my mother had slaved away at her Master’s in Teaching- and for the Michigan Festivals- which were awesome.

When I brought a friend from Ann Arbor to EL, he told me that East Lansing was a poor man’s Ann Arbor- typical thing to say as a Wolverine. But the charm of East Lansing doesn’t lie in the pocketbook of the city- it lies within the people. East Lansing cultivates the warmest people in the world- and I have never met people more caring in all my life. East Lansing changes people- for the better!

If you are visiting East Lansing, it’d be a good idea to take a look around. The Beaumont Bell Tower is a great place to start- and the Children’s Horticulture Garden. There are also two museums in the campus (many don’t visit these) with great exhibits, and a rich variety of Hmong artificacts from the Southern massacre in China (including a quilt handmade by Hmong refugees.)

The Wharton Center for the Arts gets some of the best shows in Mid-Michigan like: Rent, Sweet Charity, Mama Mia, Vince Guil, Bonnie Raitt, Switchfoot, Death Cab for Cutie, B.B. King, and many other great notorieties.

East Lansing is alive at night, and the night life couldn’t be more packed from the months of November to May. Fun music, dancing, and all of the food you could want- many restaurants even closing at around 3 a.m. Of latest notice is the Irish Pub, which is gaining popularity, and any classic for veteran Spartan: Harper’s. Great new sushi bars, new restaurants like Pizza House off of Hagadorn Rd. and what better way to celebrate East Lansing than by watching a Spartan Basketball/Hockey game?

While I have always lived near East Lansing, I have to say that living in East Lansing changes your perspective of what the city really is: a home for MSU. Michigan State University is an amazing place to come and see in the spring. My great-grandmother came all the way from Japan to see the beautiful trees blossom on MSU’s campus- and she raved about it.

Come see East Lansing if you like good people, good food, good entertainment, and good basketball!

I lived in the dorms for the first two years, and student housing for the second two years. Unquestionably, the best four years of my life.

I’ve been here for four years attending MSU. It’s been the best time of my life.

its an awesome college town, lots to do. i used to hang out there when i lived in michigan.

EL is filled with many things to do for all ages…anything from the botanical gardens all the way to grand river for the bars and shopping. you just have to want a good time when you are there because there is much to do and many people willing to do it with you! Party it up!!

Oh MSU, how you educate me! Spring is the best time of year: flowers are blooming, birds are singing, students tossing frisbees…

I was a graduate student at Michigan State University for 8 years (I’m embarassed that it took me that long – but 2 for the master’s, 6 for the PhD, and I did change topic once during the PhD).

I’m about to go back there for a little while – I should be there tonight! As I’ll be in travel status, posting and cheering will probably be delayed as I’m unsure about the full extent to which I’ll be able to access this site for extended periods of time.

I’ll write more about the place when I return.

It’s not the best college town, but it’s pretty crazy.

I listed EL as worth visiting, mostly because I grew up there and so it holds some attraction for me, but unless you’re an MSU student or have family, there isn’t much to hold an out of towner’s interest. Every summer, however, there is a mid-size folk festival, which usually draws some good acts, and there’s a film festival every spring. You just need to hit town at the right time of year.
