British Virgin Islands, British Overseas Territories

If you want to visit The Baths wait until after 11am to go. The big cruise ship hordes are usually leaving by then. After that you will have the beach almost to yourself. Also bring water shoes as the sand can get pretty hot. Be sure the take time to walk through the Devil’s Bay trail.

SO AWESOME! by artofacappella

Best snorkeling around, lots and lots of fish.

Water is very pretty, land is pretty, stars are pretty.

A plus for me, i went during a huge meteor shower.

But regardless if your going sailing, make it here.

Being a small group of islands, transportation is limited. There are 113km of roads. The main airport (Terrence B. Lettsome Airport, also known as Beef Island Airport) is located on Beef Island, which lies off the eastern tip of Tortola. Virgin Gorda and Anegada have their own smaller airports. The main harbour is in Road Town.

Christopher Columbus by sandiego001

The first European sighting of the Virgin Islands was by Christopher Columbus in 1493 on his second voyage to the Americas. Columbus gave them the fanciful name Santa Ursula y las Once Mil Vírgenes (Saint Ursula and her 11,000 Virgins), shortened to Las Vírgenes (The Virgins), after the legend of Saint Ursula.

Was with my pop when I was in 1989. We chartered a decent sized sailboat out of Tortola and cruised around the Sir Francis Drake Channel. I learned a life lesson about sunblock. It’s hard to sleep with a sunburn harder still in a boat with a sunburn.

A wonderful place rapidly being consumed. Go quick. I’m going for my 8th time in Jan of 07 with pop for his 60th.

Love ya DAD.

Charter a Sailboat by bungardg

My wife and I chartered a sailboat and island hopped for a week. It was wonderful. The people are carefree and the water is refreshing. Make sure you hit up Willy T’s if you are daring.

Definitely make time for a Carib while you’re down there.
