I’ve read some books, seen some movies, seen some docos, had some lectures at uni, met some tibettans just after I passed my driving test, seen the dissolution of a sand mandala, heard some chanting… the usual stuff.

I read Seven Years in Tibet by Heinrich Harrer about a year ago and the book was so amazing. The story seems impossible. Since then, I’ve done a lot of research about Tibet and I just started reading Lost Horizon by James Hilton (I know it’s fiction, but how could I resist?). I did some research into Shambhala and the myth (or a metaphor for something deeper maybe?) sends chills down my spine. I realize Tibet must have changed dramatically after the Chinese invasion (FREE TIBET!), but to me it still seems like one of the world’s wildest, most remote, unconquered places. They’re preconceived ideas but true in some respects.

One of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. Great food (YAK!), beautiful sites, and an interesting culture. Go to the torture museum in Zhongtou (or was that Gyantse).

I went to Tibet during the summer of 2005. I can’t even start to describe my experience there. All I can say is just to go! You’ll never regret it! I will definitely be back…

I’ve dreamt of Tibet for many years. I think it’s the most wonderful place in this world. Culture, lifestyle, the land itself. In my mind, that’s the place where we can come and find ourselves.
I’ve got plan to travel backpack to Tibet this year. So it would be great if anyone who’ve been there can share experience. Like how to get there (by train), hotels, prices, etc. Thanks a lot.
